RMA SOCIETY — PRACTICE NOTES Find the right work to automate. Useful technology begins with a clear understanding of the work. Before adding a tool, choose a small, repeatable task and define what a better result would look like. 1. Notice the tasks you repeat. Keep a list for a week. Look for repeated data entry, internal reminders, copying between systems and messages that follow the same structure. 2. Make the existing steps visible. Write down what starts the task, the information it uses, the decisions involved and the result it should produce. Unclear steps are a useful signal to simplify the process first. 3. Choose a small, low-risk starting point. Start with internal administration that is easy to review. Define what should happen automatically and where a person should check or approve the result. 4. Try it with example information. Use fictional or appropriately prepared example data while learning how a tool behaves. Check ordinary cases, missing information and the situations where the process should stop. 5. Review whether it actually helps. Ask whether the new process saves effort, reduces duplication and makes work easier to follow. Keep a simple way to return to the previous process while you learn. A starting point to adapt to your practice. Official professional guidance: https://www.mara.gov.au/
